Out for Drinks
There are so many great places to grab a cocktail (or two) and catch up with friends in Louisville. Here are my top 5:
- Nouvelle: Located in the NuLu neighborhood in downtown, this is a must visit especially on a beautiful weekend day or Tuesday – Sunday evening. The garden and patio areas are spectacular for sipping a unique wine from the specially curated wine list or a craft cocktail. They also have some fun wine events, jazz nights, and tasting parties – visit their website for the latest list.
- Tartan House: New-er to the cocktail scene, this cozy NuLu cocktail and whiskey lounge is lighter on the wine side of things, but has some killer cocktail and bourbons. A few of my favorites are their take on an Espressotini, Old Fashion, or a French 76 (yes, with vodka instead of gin).
- The Champanery: While its only open Thursday – Saturday until 9pm, this is a stop you won’t want to miss. Flights or flutes of beautiful sparkling wines from around the world as well as still wines, beer, cocktails, spirits or zero% mocktails can be enjoyed with a board or some chocolate covered strawberries.
- Osteria: One of the best happy hours in the city happens here Monday – Friday 3-6pm with half-price wines by the glass, $5 wells, and some delicious small plates (the lobster roll is a fan fav). You can also do a little boutique shopping while you are there or stay for dinner at Osteria or one of the other restaurants in Westport Village like: Hik-o-mon for sushi; Steak & Bourbon for well, steak and bourbon; or a craft pizza from BoomBozz.
- Watch Hill Proper: A little further east, nestled in the Norton Commons neighborhood is a fantastic treat for any bourbon lover. Sample hundreds of bourbons or enjoy a cocktail or wine from their extensive list. You won’t find beer here, but you will find a full menu including charcuterie, steak tartare, scallops, pasta, and delicious desserts. Its a good idea to make a reservation if you plan to pop in on a weekend night.
Cheers!
