A Day Out in Bourbon Country: Bardstown, KY

Couple’s Trip!

Just a half hour from Louisville, you can be transported to a cozy little town to taste some of the world’s best bourbons. We started our afternoon with a tour at a small craft distillery, Preservation Distillery + Farm. Its such a treat to visit the boutique distilleries. My favorite tasting from Preservation was the Wattie Boone & Sons. After you visit, come back here and let us know which was your favorite!

Then we were off to one of my favorite distilleries, Willett Distillery. We didn’t do the tour here this time since we have done in before – we just popped in to taste! In addition to great bourbons, there is a gorgeous bar upstairs complete with drinks and food. Be sure to make a reservation as even the bar seats fill up! In warmer weather, Willett has a beautiful patio and grounds.

Next, we stopped by Heaven Hill Distillery. In addition to producing bourbon whiskeys, they produce a variety of other distilled spirits. A tour here is not to be missed. Plus, if you are lucky, you may be able to pick up a hard-to-find bottle of Old Fitzgerald or McKenna!

Our evening started off by checking into the Bourbon Manor Bed and Breakfast Inn. We were welcomed Todd and Tyler who made us feel right at home. Plus, they make some 5-star cocktails and breakfast! We stayed in the Manhattan Honeymoon Hideaway which was perfectly appointed and had an electric fireplace that kept the room warm on the breezy, cold March night!

Just a short 5 minutes from the Bourbon Manor is the The Rickhouse Restaurant. Surrounded by cobblestone, in the basement of the historic Spalding Hall building, you will find world-class bourbon, delicious food, and some of the best Kentucky hospitality. My filet was one of the best and Mike enjoyed the pork chop (and maybe a few of the homemade rolls)!
